Kindermusik Our Time introduces your child to a musical world filled with singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, sound identification, instrument exploration, and creative movement. In these 45-minute classes, the toddler’s need for security is balanced with the need for independence. Our Time focuses on your child’s healthy emotional development as confidence, curiosity, self-control, and communication begin to take shape. The home materials include 2 CDs, two Music & Movement read-along books, a Family Activity book, and a specially designed instrument to encourage play and experimentation. There are four semesters of Our Time, all with different themes to capture the imagination — Wiggles & Giggles, Away We Go!, Milk & Cookies, and Fiddle-dee-dee. In a Move and Groove class, children engage in music and movement activities which promote language, social and emotional skills, early math & literacy, physical coordination, creativity and more.  Children learn basic music vocabulary and notation and put it to use on a variety of instruments, all setting the stage for future school success and private music lessons. The group format of up to 10 children provides the opportunity to play and sing in ensemble and also to do some group games to reinforce the new concepts.  This class is taught in 4-week sessions with a new theme every four weeks.  The Kindermsik@Home digital home materials — downloadable music and activities — extend the benefits all week long.

The Kindermusik for the Young Child program develops the whole child through singing, moving, listening, and creating. This class provides the child with an understanding of basic musical concepts of steady beat, note and rhythm recognition, and it serves as a good basis for private instrumental instruction. The group format of up to 8 children provides the child the opportunity to play instruments and sing in ensemble. This class is a four-level (2-year) program. We explore different families of instruments through the use of the glockenspiel (pre-keyboard) in the first year, and the dulcimer (strings) and recorder (woodwinds) in the second year. The home materials for Young Child include a canvas carrying bag, folders of materials with home activities, CDs and songbooks, and the instruments mentioned above. Some home work and practice between classes is expected.

Children come to the piano ready to play the songs they have learned to sing, dance, and love. Small group lessons at the keyboard capitalize on your child’s delight in making music with others and allow the children to have success quickly playing songs that they know. With material for three years of lessons divided into six 15-week semesters, your child will learn to play by ear and to read music. A much-loved piano repertoire of familiar songs improves his ability to read and play with fluency – resulting in pride and excitement in making music!

To continue the fun at home, you will receive a listening CD and a practice CD with special tracks for practice each week. Notation games, repertoire pieces, sight-reading pieces, opportunities for composing, and more are in your child’s comprehensive learning materials that will help him stay excited about playing and encourage him to make music long after the lessons stop.
